Mum's advice lands Kelsey her dream job in Ireland

The Tory hierarchy in the guise of William Hague was among the distinguished people awarded honorary doctorates during a week of graduation ceremonies in Lancaster.

Now a life peer, he was an MP from 1989 to 2015. He also served as Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition from 1997 to 2001, as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and Leader of the House of Commons.

Hague was made a Life Peer in 2015 and took a seat in the House of Lords.

Among those collecting their degrees was former Advertising Society President Kelsey Robb, who said her time at Lancaster University has paved the way for a dream career.

The first in her family to go to university, the 22-year-old followed her mum’s advice to take up every opportunity available to her, leading her to set up support groups and award ceremonies, become a Student Ambassador and seek internships, all alongside her academic studies.

Now Kelsey has graduated with a BSc in marketing and is moving to Dublin to work as an Associate Account Strategist for Google.

Kelsey, who graduated from Fylde College, joined the Advertising Society in her third year, and said it was the “pinnacle” of her time at university and that she made friends for life.

While Kelsey was president, the society set up mental health meetings to support members of the Advertising Executive Committee going through stressful times, and set up Ad Soc Awards to create a lasting legacy of the Society and to link more with the wider community.

Prizes were given to students and also to businesses, and the awards are now hoped to become an annual event.
