Leyland school plays part in Covid-19 battle

Staff and pupils at schools are taking advantage of smaller class sizes to help boost vital supplies for the NHS.

Over the past few weeks staff at Leyland St Mary's Catholic High have utilised facilitates to make 200 visors which have now been delivered to Ward 14, Royal Preston Hospital; Rawcliffe Ward at Chorley Hospital as well as staff at Sandy Banks Care Home, Moss Side, a team of paramedics and a local pharmacy.

The technology team at the Royal Avenue school quickly exhausted materials already in school, so they set up an Amazon Wish List as a result of all the requests for visors following their Facebook posts, and all the offers of donations from the community.

The technology team plans to produce more visors this week to meet demands.

Assistant headteacher Laura Pilling said said pupils had been busy delivering chocolate eggs to St Mary’s Church Food Bank and cards to residents at Broadfield House Care Home.

She added: " Pupils are currently working on positivity pebbles planned to boost the morale of the Leyland community.

"We are marking pebbles with special supportive messages to be found when people are undertaking their daily exercise.

"We hope they will be found, read, embraced and re-hidden to spread further joy. "

She added that pupils have been homing their artistic talents by making colourful displays for the walls at Ormskirk Hospital.
