Headteacher dons wellies at Leyland school to plant hundreds of saplings

Farington Moss St Paul’s Church of England Primary School, on Croston Rd, planted hundreds of saplings on Friday (April 23).

More than 400 saplings, which were donated by the Woodland Trust, were planted on the school field.

All of the school’s pupils planted two saplings each with the help of parents, carers and the headteacher who donned his wellies for the day.

“All pupils and staff have enjoyed planting their own tree sapling to create an 80 metre hedgerow in the school field,” said headteacher Mr Eccleston.

“We received over 400 saplings from the Woodland Trust including Blackthorn, Dog Rose and Crab Apple as part of the hedge project.

“The pupils have learnt about how planting trees helps our environment and creates wonderful habitats for wildlife.”

The children will continue to monitor the hedgerow as it ‘bursts into life’.
