Girls have fun building their confidence up

Girl power topped the timetable when Albany Academy joined forces with Chorley Council to host a project designed to increase the confidence and communications skills of female students.

A group of Year Nine girls took part in a series of workshops and activities as part of Chorley Council’s, Street Games initiative, Us Girls.

Designed to encourage girls to follow a healthy lifestyle and find enjoyment in getting involved in physical activity, it is the third year the project has taken place at Albany and is growing in 
popularity.

Pupils took part in classroom based lessons specifically designed to improve their confidence.

The event also raised awareness of a range topics, such as self-confidence, body image, health and fitness and communication skills with their peers.

The students also sampled new activities with tasters available in boxing, yoga, clubbersize and taekwondo.

As part the project, the girls had an outdoors adventure day at the Anderton Centre, where they had to challenge themselves by testing their skills at kayaking and team building 
exercises.

Pastoral officer, Sarah Anderson, said: “Us Girls this year has been very successful indeed.

“The Anderton Centre showcased the developed resilience and self- confidence of the girls who had taken part and they worked amazingly well as a team.

Chorley councillor Bev Murray said: “This is an excellent example of the council working with local schools using sports and activities to help encourage these young girls to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and improve their self-esteem and 
confidence.”
