Apprenticeships within the industry offer young people the chance to earn while they learn, with opportunities available ahead of the new academic year in September.

This spring, apprentices from all over the UK took part in PDA competitions that tested painting skills and wallpapering abilities, providing an opportunity to test their talent – and socialise – with their peers from across the country.

Chief Executive of the PDA, Neil Ogilvie said: “The time between sitting exams and getting results can be stressful for a lot of young people, but it’s also a chance to think about what they want for their future and the opportunities available to them.

“Painting and decorating is a skilled trade, with a variety of career paths available, from helping people revamp their homes, to painting rollercoasters and national landmarks, or managing large contracts on major construction projects.

“Apprentices from across the UK have recently taken part in the annual competitions hosted by the PDA and are following in the footsteps of previous winners who have gone on to achieve some amazing goals such as running their own business or judging at the World Skills competition.

“Painting and decorating is a craft that requires an often unrecognised level of knowledge and skill, and apprentices in the sector show great passion and commitment.
