Code-clever kids hold convention

children took part in a Global Coding Challenge at Computer Sciences Corp, Buckshaw Village

The CSC Codes global challenge event was staged simultaneously in London and the CSC premises in Buckshaw Village.

Youngsters from across the region, including Preston, Lancaster and South Ribble, were invited to the event after submitting projects to the challenge.

The children were given the opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with virtual reality and other future technologies.

Karen McLaughlin opened the event for Chorley talking about her experiences as a senior leader in CSC, also as a local STEM Ambassador and why events like this were so important.

The children, parents and teachers were invited to get ‘hands on’ with technology gadgets, everything from virtual reality HTC Vive and Hololens to 3D printing.

Miranda Webb from the company said: “We also had a large number of laptops available so anyone regardless of age or ability could have a go at coding and we could help, playing Code Combat, which seemed really popular.”

The winning game was called Sandwich Man, produced by a team from Silverdale St John’s School, who beat 13 others to take the top prize.
