The popular event, which attracts entrants from across the borough, was held in South Ribble Museum and Exhibition Centre in Leyland.

The official presentation event, held at Leyland Parish Church, saw more the 300 people in attendance, including the Mayor of South Ribble, Coun Linda Woollard, and her consort, husband Alistair.

Coun Woollard said: “I was dazzled by the amazing quality of the paintings and by the wide range of styles and subjects the children covered, from portraits to wildlife – and much more besides.

“It was fantastic to see the church packed out for the ceremony and a testament to the talent of these young artists.

“I would encourage people to call in at the museum and take a look at this wonderful artwork.”

During the night, 15 pupils were highly commended and presented with certificates.

Agnes Roberts,15, from All Hallows Catholic High School in Penwortham, was awarded Best in Show by Nikki Taylor, head of art at Runshaw College, for a stunning painting featuring her friend.

The eight high schools taking part in the exhibition were Balshaw’s CE, Wellfield High School and Arts College, Penwortham Priory Academy, Walton-le-Dale, Leyland St Mary’s Catholic High, Penwortham Girls, All Hallows and Lostock Hall Academy.
