Now, the 18-year-old, who lives in Preston, is heading to Cambridge University to study medicine after picking up four A* grades in his A-levels from Cardinal Newman College.

The teenager is one of 16 students from the city college awarded places at the county’s elite Oxbridge universities and among the thousands who set new record pass rates at schools and colleges across Lancashire.

Schools across the county are celebrating record pass rates with more pupils than ever before achieving the gold standard A* to C grades.
