Boarding is an outstanding experience

Everything about boarding at Lancaster Royal Grammar School is top class, according to Government watchdogs following their latest visit to the school.

The facility has retained its Outstanding in all areas status following a visit from inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education, even under the tough new criteria.

The final reports echoes praise already heaped on the East Road school.

Lancaster Royal Grammar is one of only a handful of state boarding schools in the country and provides full and weekly boarding .

The i newsletter cut through the noise

It caters for 167 boarders in four houses and is popular with pupils who stay over.

Inspectors noted: “Pupils make exceptional progress in this school,” adding: “Difference is valued and celebrated, with different nationalities contributing to a vibrant and welcoming environment.”

Pupils are happy to board and the final report stated: “Many pupils told inspectors that boarding felt like being part of a family.

One pupil said: I really love boarding and I think that my boarding house is also a fantastic area for studying.”

Headteacher Dr Chris Pyle said: “We are delighted with the glowing comments in this report.

“It paints an extremely positive picture of the boarding community at our school.

“The inspectors spent a lot of time speaking to our boarders in all year groups, and it is excellent to be reminded that they gain so much from boarding at

“We remain ambitious to make continued improvements to provide the best possible care and education for every single boarder.”
