200 reasons for a big celebration

Living history has been right at the top of the timetable for youngsters at one of Chorley's oldest established church schools.

Coppull Parish Primary is now the grand old age of200 years old.

So staff, pupils, parents and the rest of the community decided they would celebrate the occasion in style.

Months of hard work went into planning a party to remember – which will go down into the school’s proud history.

In the run-up to the bicentenary, the children have been learning all about the history of school and the local area, with the support of a local historian and retired teacher, Geoff Bellis, who took in photographs dating back nearly 200 years.

A timeline was set up in the hall and past pupils, staff, parents and the community were invited to join a street party where children and staff dressed in period costumes for each of the decades.

The visitors regaled fascinated pupils with a potted history of their days at the school.
