Astley View Care Home Commemorates Armistice Day with Residents and Community

Residents and staff at Astley View Care Home in Chorley came together to commemorate Armistice Day through a series of reflective and engaging events.
A local singer visited the home to perform wartime favourites, prompting residents to share memories and stories of family members who served. The home’s cinema room was used to show the national Remembrance service from London, followed by a service of remembrance led by Pastor Mark and his congregation, bringing residents, families and staff together for prayers and readings.
Residents also welcomed a local historian who gave an insightful talk about the history of different wars and the experiences of those who served. The discussion encouraged residents to share their own recollections and reflections.
On 11th November, everyone in the home observed the national two-minute silence at 11am, joining people across the country in honouring those who served and sacrificed for peace.

Home Manager Christina Durnan said: “Remembrance is a time that means a great deal to many of our residents. It was important to plan activities that encouraged reflection and gave everyone a chance to pay their respects in their own way. The sense of togetherness across the home was really special.”
