“Moving the Tuesday Market traders has meant that they are more integrated with shops and businesses in the town centre which means that visitors now get the best of both worlds.”

Following development of the Market Walk extension, it is hoped that visitor numbers will increase further, attracting more people to the town.

Malcolm Allen, chairman of Chorley’s Trader’s Alliance and owner of Malcolm’s Musicland, said: “It’s been extremely good for business. Footfall was been up 60 to 70 per cent in the three weeks after it moved.

“It’s been excellent for the market traders and for the shops. The comments from customers say it makes Chorley feel like a market town again. It should have been done years ago.”
