Wetherspoons on rumours of opening new pub near railway station in Preston
Wetherspoons has responded to rumours suggesting it plans to open a new pub in Preston.
There has been speculation that the pub chain was planning to open a new branch at the former Bistrot Pierre restaurant near the railway station in Fishergate.
The French-themed restaurant closed with immediate effect in March after its parent company entered into administration and its new owners deemed the Preston branch as ‘no longer viable’.

The Fishergate venue, formerly a Baptist church, was put on the market but remains vacant.
Wetherspoons plans to shut The Grey Friar - one of its two Preston pubs - once a new tenant has been found for the Friargate venue, and there had been talk that the chain would seek to open a new pub elsewhere in the city.

Word had spread that the former Bistrot Pierre restaurant was being considered for a new Wetherspoons, but the chain has now confirmed that there is no truth to the rumours.
“We have checked and that’s not a site Wetherspoons are interested in,” said a spokesperson on behalf of Wetherspoons.
They added that The Grey Friar will continue to trade as normal until a new tenant takes up the lease.
