The Stoneygate Masterplan aims to breathe new life into an area that includes Queen Street Retail Park, Cardinal Newman College and St John’s Minster.

The masterplan sets out a long-term vision that aims to attract investment into Stoneygate and realise its potential, with a focus on more attractive public spaces and creating new jobs and places to live.

Another goal is to improve walking and cycling routes within the area as well as delivering stronger links to the rest of the city centre.

Preston City Council working in partnership with Lancashire County Council on the plans to create a better environment for residents, business owners, students and visitors alike through quality public realm improvements.

Manchester-based planning consultancy, Nexus Planning, has been brought in to create the vision for the masterplan.

It is hoped investors will come forward and help make the vision a reality.

The Stoneygate Regeneration Framework Supplementary Planning Document identifies scope for the provision of up to approximately 1655 homes within this part of the city centre.

A Preston City Council spokesman said: "Development of the scale envisaged requires careful planning and coordination, particularly given the highway and other infrastructure requirements and the number of different landowners and developers involved in the area."

The deadline for the publication consultation on the masterplan is Monday March 23.

All planning applications that are submitted to the City Council will be assessed on their own merits at the time.
