A planning application for change of use to create a snail farm in Ribchester and six holiday cabin lets has been refused by Ribble Valley Borough Council.

The application was a resubmission, after an earlier application for development was withdrawn.

The field site is off Preston Road, Ribchester and residents had previously expressed concerns about access to the site and road safety.

The applicant was L’Escargotiere (Ribble Valley) Ltd of 27, Inglewhite Road, Longridge.

Ribchester Parish Council had objected to the plans, particularly on the basis that the application now acknowledged that the site was in an area at risk of flooding. Clerk Deborah Groves noted other concerns about traffic, road safety and the creation of an “unacceptable precedent”.
