Plans for four large-scale industrial and warehousing units, as well as four new premises aimed at start-ups, have been approved at the Frontier Park commercial site near Blackburn.

PWA Planning successfully advised Monte Blackburn, the property and development company for the Issa family, on the latest ambitious development at the 90-acre business park off the M65.

The larger of the two developments will create four industrial, storage and distribution units, totalling 176,000 sq ft.

The four buildings will comprise two blocks of two similarly sized units, each serviced by a parking area for 50 or more cars. Landscaping around the units will enhance the aesthetic appeal of the development, which will also include pedestrian access.

The second development involves building one 5,000 sq ft and three 3,000 sq ft start-up units on a vacant site that is already cleared and ready for construction work. The units have been designed in response to strong demand for start-up premises at Frontier Park, following discussions with potential occupiers.

Barnfield Construction is the main contractor on the project and construction is already under way.

Gemma Newall, senior planner at PWA Planning, based in the Riversway area of the city, said: “With PWA having been involved in the planning for earlier phases of the scheme, including the forecourt retail part and the hotel and conferencing centre, it’s been exciting for our team to see the transformation of this strategic site.

“These latest commercial developments will create further jobs and attract additional investment into the area and we’re proud to have supported them.” Frontier Park is the area’s biggest employment and commercial development for decades.
