"My childhood dream came true - I own a sweet shop!" Penwortham mum handed keys to Lolipops in Penwortham
A Lancashire mum says her “childhood dream has come true” after she was handed the keys to her very own sweet shop.
Rebecca Wilson and her family are the proud new owners of Penwortham’s Lolipops in Liverpool Road.
Today (Wednesday, March 4), she greeted her first customers as she opened the doors to the sweet shop for the first time.
Former owners Amy and Lauren Elleray-Wilson began trading four years ago and the shop swiftly became a go-to place for pick and mix, party sweet cones, American treats and more.
In January, they announced they were seeking to sell the Penwortham business and on Monday they confirmed the sale had been completed. Their branch of Lolipops in Station Road, Bamber Bridge is unaffected by the sale and will continue trading as normal under their ownership.
Handing the keys to new owner Rebecca, a childhood friend of Amy’s, the pair told customers “we know we've made the right decision”.
In a post on Facebook, they said: “We just know we've made the right decision, not only for ourselves but to enable a new family to come in and continue creating memories with you all feels so warming as we know they will do just that and more.”
Rebecca said Lolipops will remain a family-run business, with her partner and teenage sons Alfie and Jacob helping run the store.

In her first post on the Lollipops Facebook page, she said: “From standing out front together as a family, to getting stuck in behind the till, to rocking our new Lolipops hoodies - today made it all feel real.
“We’re so excited to take over. Whether you’re popping in for your pick & mix favourites, an ice cream treat, or just a little bit of nostalgia… we can’t wait to welcome you.
“There’s lots to come. This is just the beginning - the Wilson family.”
