They were greeted by store manager Tony Breen, Olympic medallist Anyika Onuora and Team GB Taekwondo star Adelaide Barnes, who cut the ribbon at 8am.
The first 30 people were rewarded with bags of free fruit and veg from Aldi’s Super Six range.
The supermarket – which has been built on the former site of the Bay Leaf restaurant in Liverpool Road – is more than 1,700 square metres in size and has created 35 jobs.

The Co-operative Group opposed plans for the new store strongly. They claimed that Aldi had failed to demonstrate that there were 'very special circumstances' to justify development in the Green Belt and also failed to meet certain aspects of development plans. They also claimed the development would cause a a significant adverse impact on the vitality and viability of the village centres of Tarleton and Hesketh Bank. Photo: Neil Cross
