Established in 1972, the dealership is one of the longest established used car businesses in the area. But after four decades, its 77-year-old owner Richard Smith has decided to retire.

The user car dealer will shut the sales forecourt in Golden Hill Lane after its last remaining vehicles are sold. Chief salesman Jonathan told the Post there were five cars still available and the garage will close after the final sale.

The on-site MOT and repairs/service workshop has ceased taking further bookings and will close after its final job is completed.

What will replace it?

Chief salesman Jonathan said: “It’s been sold to a developer, but we don’t know what their plans on for the site. One thing we do know is that it won’t be another garage.

“We have a lot of loyal customers, some have been coming to us for more than 20 years. It’s been a pleasure serving them and we’re grateful for their custom.

“Most of our technicians have found jobs elsewhere and our MOT tester Nick is hoping to continue working in the area. So our customers will see all the familiar and trusted faces again.

“But after more than 40 years and at the age of 77, Richard has decided its time to retire.”
