The boss of Lancaster-based Kidds Transport, is setting out on the road to a win in the Be Inspired Business Awards, and is encouraging other Lancashire transport businesses to join it in the competition and shine a light on the sector.
Simon Park, managing director at 65 year old family business, Kidds Transport, firmly believes it’s the best at what it does, and intends to prove it by winning the award for Transport and Distribution Business of the Year, a new category in this year’s Be Inspired Business Awards (Bibas) run by the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.
Simon said: “Kidds Transport, founded by my great uncle, Ernest Kidd, started out providing haulage services to local farmers. Now we have a fleet that includes trailers for carrying dry goods on pallets, and tankers for moving everything from wastes to chemicals for industry. We also have 145,000 square feet of dry warehousing.
“There’s a depth and breadth to what we do that I believe is unmatched in Lancashire. That, coupled with the first class service we deliver, is why I’m confident we can win this new Bibas award.”
In 2015, during Storm Desmond, its Lancaster site was badly flooded but Kidds recovered and has continued to thrive.
Sean Coates of Heysham Ships Agency, a long-standing customer of Kidds Transport, is backing Simon’s bid for glory:
He said: “We’ve been using Kidds for well over 12 years and have always found them to deliver exceptional levels of service, they really help to keep our business moving. Without them, we wouldn’t be as successful as we are.”
Simon concluded: “While we’re entering because I believe we can win, I also want to see the spotlight shine on the sector more broadly."
Kidds Transport has annual revenues of £5m and employs 56. Its fleet travels more than 41,000 miles a week, delivering over 1,300 pallets of goods a day.
