The DIY store in Mariners Way will close at the end of December, with a number of staff set to lose their jobs over the Christmas period.

According to staff, there are currently no plans to relocate the store elsewhere in Preston.

Homebase says the closing date for the store is planned for December 31, but staff have suggested that the store could close before Christmas.

A Homebase spokesman said: "Our store in Mariners Way, Preston will be closing on December 31 and our focus is supporting our team members over the next few months.

"Until then, customers can continue to shop with us in-store.

But a replacement tenant has already been confirmed for the large commercial unit, situated between McDonald's and Morrisons.

Homebase staff say a new B&M store will take its place, but the discount chain store has not confirmed an opening date at this stage.

If B&M do set up shop at Preston Docks, it will be its fourth store to open in the city, joining branches in Ribbleton Lane, Fulwood Central and Ringway.

Both Homebase and B&M have been approached for comment.
