The event celebrates the independent record stores across the country – and the revival that vinyl is enjoying.

In Preston, Action Records was expecting massive queues as it opened its doors to music fans at 8am.

Owner Gordon Gibson said: “It’s the busiest day of the year. They will be queuing outside from around 5am.

“It will be massive this year – particularly now 6 Music have got behind Record Store Day in a big way.”

After years of vinyl records being shunned for CDs and digital downloads, vinyl has seen a massive revival.

Many record labels targets releases for Record Store Day – and eager fans can’t wait to get their hands on them.

At Actions Records in Church Street, the policy this weekend is one copy per person per title.

Action Records was established in 1979, starting off on a stall in Blackpool just as the independent music scene was emerging.

From there it opened a site in Preston, where it has been a popular addition to the city ever since.

Action has its own record label and has hosted live performances by many acclaimed bands.

The resurgence of vinyl means has been such that last year, the Official Charts  Company launched the UK’s first ever - and only - dedicated weekly Official Vinyl Charts,

The Official Charts  Company estimates that over the past 12 months a cool 2.39 million vinyl albums have been snapped up in the UK plus a further 222,000 singles on 7” and 12”.
