Dad-of-three Mark Nuttall, aka Mark Freejack, opened Bartley’s doors to the public on Friday night after launching the business in Berry Lane, Longridge, with his partner Emma Lee and long-term friend Gary Lee Woods.

The 47-year-old, who owns several bars and a nightclub in Yorkshire, says he wanted a new venture closer to home.

Mark, who worked for Rock FM for 32 years, said: “I’ve travelled the world and played at Tokyo Jo’s. I’m working until 5am in Yorkshire, which can be hard when you’re 47, so I wanted something local.”

Mark adds that it means a lot to him to name the venue after his son Bartley, who was born three months premature.

“It’s a unique name for a unique, lucky and brave boy,” he said.

“He was very ill for quite some time in Royal Preston Hospital. It was touch and go and the staff saved his life. They’re angels.

“He’s now around 17-months-old and doing fantastically.”

Mark says the trio were about to sign the business deal when the country was put into lockdown in March, and have put in safety measures like social distancing, a cap on customer numbers, table service and PPE for staff.

He added: “People said, ‘Are you crazy opening something during the pandemic?

“Everything is now in turmoil because of the virus and the hospitality sector has suffered dramatically but you have to adapt. We have to stay safe but also make sure customers have a nice, enjoyable experience.”

The bar will offer high-end cocktails and spirits, and music will include dance, RnB, Motown, and soul.

Bartley’s will open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6pm to 1am.
