First look inside new B&M store at Preston Docks which opened at the weekend

Preston's new B&M store has opened at Preston Docks over the weekend with eager shoppers queuing around the car park to get a look inside.

B&M welcomed shoppers to its new store at the former Homebase in Mariner's Way - between McDonald's and Morrisons - as it opened its doors for the first time at 9am (Saturday, March 27).

Around 30 staff members were on hand as the opening got under way, as shoppers queued around the car park an hour beforehand for a glimpse inside.

At 11am, the car park was nearly full and there was heavy traffic along Mariner's Way as families headed to the new store, and to McDonald's and Morrison's.

Spread over two floors and boasting a large outdoor garden centre, the new B&M is the largest of its four stores in Preston

The 39,000 sq ft store has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment and its spacious aisles boast a range of products, including food, drink, baby food and pet food, as well health and beauty products, homeware, electricals, DIY essentials, toys, games, gifts and accessories.

Its regular opening times are 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sundays.

Jack and Sue McVicar, who founded local charity Luv Preston, were invited to cut the orange ribbon and officially open the store as staff and customers cheered.

Jack said: "It was very busy. There were queues all around the car park when we arrived at 8.15am.

"We were honoured to open this new large store especially when we have a very strong connection with the Docks where our Foodbank storage unit is based.

"The store is absolutely immaculate. It’s a beautiful store and a credit to all involved at B&M."

In addition to opening the store, Jack and Sue were also handed £250 worth of B&M vouchers which will go towards helping Luv Preston continue the great work they do.

The store manager said: “Luv Preston really stood out for us so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done, and continue to do.

"We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work."

B&M's other Preston stores can be found in Ribbleton Lane, Fulwood Central and Ringway.
