Preston’s city centre branch of TG Jones - formerly WH Smiths - is set to close with the store launching an ‘everything must go sale’ this week.

The Fishergate store, also part of St George’s Shopping Centre, will shut its doors on January 9, 2027.

Yellow sales signs have appeared in the windows declaring “Everything Must Go” and “Store Closing Down”, with the sales beginning today (Friday, September 18).

A spokesperson for TG Jones said: “As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Preston shop will close.

“We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community.

“Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period.

“We would like to thank all of our colleagues for their commitment and the contribution they have made to TG Jones.”

The closure comes after TG Jones secured court approval earlier this month for a major restructuring of the business.

It’s expected to result in around 150 store closures and affect hundreds of jobs. A list of 19 closures was subsequently announced, but Preston was not included on the list of affected stores.

The High Court approved the restructuring as a necessary step to prevent the business, which was renamed following its purchase by Modella, from becoming insolvent.

TG Jones has not said how many jobs will be affected by the Preston closure.

Preston has another branch of TG Jones at Deepdale Retail Park which does not appear to be affected by the closures.
