Fire investigators are examining a damaged shop in Chorley to establish the cause of a blaze yesterday.

Four appliances from Chorley, Bamber Bridge, Preston and Horwich were called to the incident at Ryman’s stationery store in the heart of the town centre at around 10:50am.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the blaze under control using a hose reel, but remained at the scene for around two hours to assess the damage and look at the possible cause.

The scene of the blaze in Market Walk was cordoned off with barriers as shoppers gathered to watch crews put out the fire and make the area safe.

Checks also had to be made to the Game shop next door to see if the blaze had spread.

Chorley Council described the incident as “a small fire” in a statement on its website.
