Preston city centre street to get its fifth coffee shop
A coffee newcomer from the other side of the Pennines is heading to Preston.
Preston’s main high street is set to get its fifth coffee chain branch after plans for the conversion of a former charity shop were given the green light.
Coffeeboy is set to open in a vacant unit on Fishergate, at the junction with Mount Street. The building was previously occupied by the Derian House Children’s Hospice shop.

Preston City Council has approved changes to the front of the premises, including the relocation of the entrance and the installation of new windows. Permission was not required for the change of use of the premises themselves.
It will be Yorkshire-based Coffeeboy’s first outlet in the North West, located on a street already served by branches of Caffe Nero, Costa Coffee, Starbucks and Black Sheep Coffee.
The firm had previously said it planned to open during the second half of May. It did not respond to a request from the Lancashire Post for an update on that timetable.

A spokesperson said in April: “We’re bringing great coffee, good vibes and great jobs to the city. We’ll be hiring locally, so we can’t wait to become part of the Preston community. For any keen baristas looking for work, keep an eye on coffee_boy_official socials for details on how to apply.
“We are absolutely buzzing to be heading to Preston. It’s such a brilliant, vibrant city and Fishergate feels like the perfect home for us. We want to be somewhere people actually want to hang out – and Preston felt like exactly that kind of place.”
City council planners concluded that the changes to the shopfront would not cause any harm to the Winckley Square Conservation Area within which the already “modern” building stands.
