First look inside the new Derian House Children's Hospice charity shop in Bamber Bridge

“The people of Bridge have been very, very welcoming.”

Derian House Children's Hospice held the grand opening of its new charity shop at Bamber Bridge Shopping Centre last Friday (October 30, 2026).

The Chorley-based charity’s mascot Danni was at the opening, along with staff and volunteers, including Louise Privett and her son Jacob, 12, who cut the ribbon to officially open the shop.

The new store in Cotton Mill Road, which stocks clothes, furniture, bric-a-brac, electricals and books, will be the charity’s sixth store, joining shops in Chorley, Blackburn, Leigh, Horwich, and Westhoughton.

Speaking at the opening event, Tony Smalley, retail area manager for Derian House, said: “We've just opened today, and as you can see, we've got lots of people in already.

“We've got a lovely selection of clothes, furniture, bric-a-brac, electricals, books, and as well, our newly launched Christmas cards.

“We're hoping to do really well. The people of Bridge have been very, very welcoming.”

Tony went on to thank the hard work of one of the volunteers, Bob Housden, whose efforts had helped make the new store a reality.

“One of the great things about this shop is a lot of the work building it was done by one of our kind volunteers, Bob”, he said.

Tony continued: “He's built the clothes fixtures, the card fixture, the till, the changing room, everything. He's brought his talent and his experience. He's done lots of things at other shops.

“This is his biggest project for us yet. And I can't thank him enough for everything he's done for us. Not only is it amazing looking, he's saved us a lot of money in the process, which helps us then give more money back to our families.”

The shop is open from 9.30am and 4.30pm, Mondays to Saturdays, with donations also welcome during those times.
