Designed to celebrate the efforts of local businesses during a difficult year, the awards are also a way of keeping businesses connected with the communities they serve.

Businesses will be expected to enter themselves in the category of their choosing, with residents then voting for their favourites.
The organisers hope to announce the winners before Christmas.

She said: “Penwortham is such a lovely place, and we’ve just had all these new businesses open on the high street. These awards will really help businesses because I think they’ll reward them for their hard work and they’ll get a bit of appreciation, and it’s something a bit different.
“I think it’s absolutely fantastic.”
Her views are echoed by Vicky Foster who runs Studio 28, a hairdressing salon also on Liverpool Road.
