It says it is working hard to save jobs at the store, which has been badly affected by a drop in footfall owing to the coronavirus crisis.
A spokesman said: “Booths has begun a consultation process with their colleagues at Media City proposing to close the store within the coming months.
“Booths have worked hard to refine the offer at Media City to make it relevant to the local community, but the store has accumulated significant losses since it opened in 2011.
“Over the past nine months the store has also been affected by the impacts of home-working due to Coronavirus with a significant reduction in customer visits and sales.
“Booths are exploring several options to protect the 62 jobs that are at risk and will continue to search for appropriate solutions during the consultation period, however as yet none are forthcoming.
Booths added: “Closing any store is an extremely difficult decision and is not a reflection of the dedication of our teams at Media City and the wider business.”
The Preston-headquartered supermarket chain recorded strong sales at Christmas, with online orders particularly buouyant.
