Care firm set to breathe new life into much-loved former Lancaster baby store

A care company has moved into a prominent building in Lancaster city centre.

Horizons Homecare is set to officially open its latest branch at 44 to 48 North Road, the former home for 20 years of Simply Baby.

The property will now be welcoming another family focused service with Horizons Homecare, who are inviting local residents, business owners and health and social care professionals to join them for a Grand Opening and Networking Event.

The Simply Baby building had long been a familiar and trusted part of Lancaster’s city centre known for supporting parents and children, and Horizons Homecare says it has chosen its new location with purpose, recognising the building’s history and aiming to honour its legacy by continuing to serve local families.

“We feel privileged to move into a building that holds so many memories for local people,” said Russell Crossley, managing director.

“Our goal is to bring that same sense of trust, kindness and reliability to adults who wish to remain independent in their own homes."

The launch event will be held on January 15 2026 from 5pm featuring complementary fizz and nibbles, welcome speeches and a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Julie Shaw, who was the owner of Simply Baby and now a director for Lancaster BID, will officially cut the ribbon and declare the new branch open.

The evening has been designed not only to introduce Horizons Homecare to the area but also to bring Lancaster’s professional community together.

Local businesses are invited to bring business cards, flyers and leaflets so attendees can discover new services, share expertise and spark future collaboration.

“We believe strong care begins with strong community partnerships," said Mr Crossley.

"This event is an opportunity for us to learn about the work of local organisations and to show how we can support each other moving forward."

Horizons Homecare says it is expanding into Lancaster in response to a growing need for dependable, relationship-centred homecare.

Mr Crossley said: "The service focuses on consistency, unrushed visits and a values led approach that puts kindness at the centre."

“We want to be a positive and active part of Lancaster. This branch is not just about care. It is about joining a community, supporting local people and building strong relationships that benefit everyone,."

The Lancaster branch will provide domiciliary care, companionship, medication support, complex care, daily living assistance and completely bespoke care planning. Each visit is designed to support independence, dignity and quality of life for adults who wish to remain in their own homes.

Horizons Homecare also covers Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.
