Bargain supermarket branch in Lancashire set to close just before Christmas in 'cost-cutting' measure

Poundland in Lancaster is set to close before Christmas in a new cost-cutting measure by the discount retailer.
Poundland has said it is shutting another tranche of UK stores by February as part of its closure programme.
The retailer has already trimmed the size of its chain this year as it hopes to turn around its performance and secure its future on Britain’s high streets.
And it has now earmarked around 30 stores for closure as part of a restructuring plan which came in as the Gordon Brothers purchased the business for a nominal sum.
Poundland bosses determined that 800 shops around Britain will need to be slashed to a figure of 650 to 700.
The shops that are due to close are holding clearance sales, with reductions of up to 40% and with items marked down in price until they are sold.
The Lancaster store – which is in Marketgate – will close its doors on December 19, it has been announced.
