£30m Lancashire project wins top building award

A major Lancashire project has won a top building award for its inclusivity.

The team behind the AFC Fylde Mill Farm Project was a regional winner in the Local Authority Building Control North West Awards.

The £30m new build development in Wesham built by main contractor Warden Construction, of Kirkham, was completed in 2016.

It comprises professional and community sport, leisure and commercial facilities and is the home for football team AFC Fylde and won the Best Inclusive Building title.

The winning project team who delivered this scheme was made up of Warden Construction, Frank Whittle Partnership, Mill Farm Ventures and AFC Fylde, PWA Planning, Partington and Associates, Petit Singleton Associates, Preston City Council and Fylde Borough Council.

The announcement was made at a ceremony at Lancashire County Cricket Club attended by 530 guests from the construction industry and local authority building control professionals.

The LABC judges praised the winners for their: “innovative and creative solutions and building control professionalism that leads to safe, sustainable and high quality construction projects.”

David Haythornthwaite, chairman, Mill Farm Ventures and AFC Fylde Football Club said: “We were impressed with Warden from the very first meeting and have found them great to work with on this project. The sports village has been a tremendous boost for the local community and economy.”

Richard Kenworthy, managing director, Warden Construction said: “AFC Fylde Mill Farm Sports Village was the largest design and build project that we have ever taken on and to know that it has been recognised in this way is absolutely fantastic.”
