On my very first class back, 69 people walked through the door. Three weeks on, attendance is still in the 60s, and I honestly feel incredibly lucky. All of these wonderful people choose to spend that one hour with me each week, and that means more than I can put into words. We are on a journey together, and the sense of support we share both inside and outside the class and is something truly special.
My classes welcome everyone. I have young children attending with their parents, and adults with learning disabilities who come along with their carers. Watching them dance freely, express themselves without fear, and completely lose themselves in the music is beautiful to see. Having worked in the care sector for many years, an inclusive and safe space has always been close to my heart.
When I’m up on stage and I look out at the room, that’s where my energy comes from. People often ask me how I still have so much energy after a full day at work, and the answer is simple: it’s the smiles, the confidence growing week by week, and the motivation I see in every single person. As cheesy as it sounds, it really is the best feeling in the world.
If I can help people feel fitter, healthier, and more confident in a dark, non-judgemental environment where everyone is equal, then that’s exactly what I’ll continue to do. We are spreading the Zumba with Becky love, and I am so proud of the community we have built together. Seeing people return after time away reminds me why I do this, and it fills me with pride every single week.
I teach because I want to inspire, motivate people of all ages and of all fitness levels. I took the plunge and started classes again on the 7th of January.

If I can inspire the younger generation to get on stage with me and be confident - I am winning! Photo: Submitted
