The Wayne Hemingway-inspired festival has confirmed a World War 2 RAF fly past of a Lancaster Bomber, Hurricane and a Spitfire on Saturday September 5 at 2pm.

Crowds will also have a chance to get up close and personal with a Mark IX Spitfire when it will be on display outside The Midland Hotel.

A team in period RAF gear will give talks to visitors about the role the aircraft played during the second World War.

Visitors can evenhave their photo taken in the cockpit of the Spitfire, which will be available over the whole weekend (September 5-6).

More than 40,000 people attended last year’s Vintage By the Sea, which transforms Morecambe’s seafront into a celebration of music, fashion, film, art, design and dance from the 1920s to the 1990s.

Festival organiser Wayne Hemingway promises this year is better than ever.

The Morecambe designer said: “The flyover proved very popular last year and it was just very uplifting to see those kind of numbers on the promenade.

People were saying they hadn’t seen so many crowds there in one place in all their lifetime.

“We don’t get stressed about it, we know how good it is going to be, the only thing that can go wrong is the weather. It is bigger and better this year.

“We try to enjoy ourselves and make sure we get everything done in preparation so we are not rushing about.”

“We have got a good local team, Deco Publique, who are on site every day and are part of the community.”
