Village show dates

Saturday sees flower, vegetable, produce and handicraft shows taking place at Cockerham and Grimsargh, each in their respective village halls, and organisers are eagerly awaiting a vast selection of exhibits, particularly after the recent hot spell.

Cockerham Village Show opens its doors to the public at 2pm for the 51st event.

Chairman Christine Smith, said: “It was so cold for so long and everyone got a slow start, but the hot weather seems to have pushed things along, so we are hoping to have a good show of vegetables and flowers.”

Cockerham has a number of new classes, including ones for three spray chrysanthemums, vanilla fudge and for four decorated cup cakes.

There are 121 classes in all, including a section for children.

Admission is £1 and the prize giving, by this year’s president, Evelyn Bush is at 4pm.

Grimsargh Flower, Produce and Handicraft Show will be open from 2pm to 4pm.

Chairman Eileen Murray said: “With all the sunshine we’ve enjoyed so far this summer, together with the recent rainfall, the show committee is anticipating some glorious entries fruit and veg entries.”

There are all the usual classes with also new ones which include ones for fuchsias, a hand-tied posy, decorated cupcakes, home-made sweets and for a ‘Showstopper Cake’.
