Troggs promise wild things

And even if you are too young for it to have made your heart sing the first time around, chances are that a few bars of the intro would be instantly recognisable to you.

Earlier this year one of the original members, 71-year-old Reg Presley, died, but the band still boasts founding member Chris Britton on lead guitar, along with Pete Lucas on bass and Dave Maggs on drums and Chris Allen on lead vocals (Ex Denny Laine Band & The Commitments).

And on Friday, September 27, they will be in Preston for an appearance at The Continental.

The popularity of the Troggs has never waned and they are still in huge demand around the world, where they regularly headline festivals attracting thousands of fans.

Fans range from stalwarts who have supported them throughout the years to the many new fans from the younger generation.

The band reached the top of the charts in 1968 with its flower-power ballad Love is all Around and had other hit singles including With A Girl Like You and Night of the Long Grass.

Dubbed by many as the “first British punk band” The Troggs composed much of their own material and are credited with having an important influence on the likes of The Ramones.

They rose to their highest profile in years when three members of R.E.M., which had covered “Love Is All Around”, backed The Troggs on the 
comeback album Athens Andover.
