Throwing a garden party

Up to 1,000 happy campers and music fans are set to descend on a field on Dunkirk Lane, Leyland, for a homegrown mini music festival and beer bash organised by the Burrows family.

They have aptly christened Glastonburrows’ two-day festival, starting on Friday, July 4.

Several local bands will perform at the event but tickets are strictly limited.

The event, last staged in 2008, is the brainchild of Chris and Jenny Burrows, who live at a smallholding on Dunkirk Lane, and their four children David, Kit, Tim and Polly.

It will raise funds for the Rosemere Cancer foundation at the Royal Preston hospital, and Water Aid.

Today Chris, 71, who is retired from running a white water rafting business, joked: “It is a low key event.

“I’m looking forward to the peace and quiet on the Sunday!

“I actually went to college with the sister of Michael Eavis who organises
Glastonbury.

“But this is very much our own idea.”

Proud son David, whose task is to co-ordinate all the bands appearing at the event, said: “ My parents have always been into having big charity events.

“We sat around the table in January this year and decided to host another music festival.

“It’s so much fun. We have sold 725 tickets to date so things are going great. We are encouraging people to pay for tickets through our Just Giving website.

“Our family motto is ‘Anything worth doing is worth overdoing’

“Lots of our family and friends have been affected in some way by cancer and we felt it was right to do it for Rosemere.”

Among acts appearing on Friday night are stand up comic Marc Iles and acoustic performer Brett Hamner and on Saturday the performances kick off at 11.30am with the One Voice community choir, followed by four-piece band The Hats.

There will also be a runway stage and professional pyrotechnics.
