The West Midlands stand-up comic, actor, writer and radio and TV presenter is set to appear at the Guild Hall for two nights as part of his 35-date UK tour.

His Man in a Suit schedule marks the Room 101 presenter’s first nationwide itinerary since a sell-out tour seven years ago, and the 57-year-old wants to make the most of his opportunity.

The West Bromwich Albion fan said: “I’ve always enjoyed touring.

“When I hear people say they’re not going to tour again, be it musicians or anyone else, they’ll say, ‘I like the shows, but don’t like all the other stuff’.

“But I’ve always liked all the other stuff!

“I like being on the motorway at two in the morning, and I like hotels a lot, and visiting places like Preston, where I’d only ever go otherwise if it was an away game.

“No disrespect, but I wouldn’t normally say ‘come on, let’s go to Preston for the weekend!’

“But I know much more about Britain than most of the people I know, judging by my conversation with friends, and that’s because I’ve been on tour to all these places.

“I love that aspect too, and I’ll happily go and visit places of local interest. So have you any tips?

“You do realise I’m writing all this down? It better be good.

“I’ve got a whole day in Preston togo pottering around, after all.”

So here were some of the ideas – it’s up to Frank whether he takes up your suggestions.

The Boatyard Inn at Hoghton, near Preston, @BoatyardInn offered Frank a place to stay: “Come and see us by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, and we can even put you up for the night!”

Reader Rick Clegg emailed in with this bizarre suggestion for the Baggies fan: “I can’t think of any other places for Frank to visit when in Preston (maybe Beacon Fell), but if he is short of something to do, he can help me begin to sort out all my late father’s football programmes into some sort of order.

“Pretty sure there’s some WBA ones in there.”

Taxi Driver@PrestonTaxi said: “Urge them to visit Hoghton Tower which is the place where a p*****d king knighted a loin steak.

“As a Preston taxi driver, I always tell overseas visitors the sirloin story and urge them to visit it.”

Robin Carter @RobinTCarter said Frank should head to The St George’s Shopping Centre to see The Original Art Shop.

He said: “Come and see art by Bob Dylan and Ronnie Wood at @originalartshop. Nothing by John Wayne though.”

Steve Saul @StevenSaul suggested heading to Cannon Street: “Mystery Tea House, and a walk round Avenham Park.”

And naughty Jacqueline Morley @jacquimorley said: “Head to
Blackpool...”

And what did Frank think of your suggestions?

He said: “Thanks so much to your readers for their suggestions, I’m looking forward to exploring the area!”
