Train mob to set station alight

There’s often a song and dance at Preston Railway Station of late, but this afternoon there’ll be one which doesn’t involve replacement buses.

Cast members of brand new musical Stop the Train, which steams into Preston Guild Hall’s Charter Theatre on Thursday, will be making an unscheduled stop at the station from 4pm to take part in a special ‘flash mob’ event.

Travellers will get a taste of the rolling hit, which focuses on the unorthodox behaviour of a mysterious passenger who awakens the dreams and ambitions of fellow commuters.

The dark, twisting comedy is peppered with showstopping songs and features a video cameo from superstar star-gazer Russell Grant and a ‘walk on’ appearance from a very special PNE face at the Thursday night performance.

Writers Phil Rice and Rick Guard are Lancashire lads and former Runshaw College students. They cut their teeth as performing musicians and are now platinum selling songwriters with hits around the world.

Stop the Train is also the subject of a documentary by BAFTA winner Chris Swann, and charts the rise of this duo, who some are hailing as the North West’s answer to Lloyd Webber and Rice.

They aim to take the show to the West End, and – with offers of investment pouring in and interest from Cameron Mackintosh, one of Britain’s most successful producers of smash hit musicals – the outlook is good.
