Breaking The Code covers the life of Alan Turing, the maths genius who worked among the code-breakers at Bletchley Park during World War II and who cracked the German Enigma code.

Prime Minister Winston Churchill claimed this shortened the war by two years, yet when the war was over Turing was treated with suspicion by authorities.

Openly gay at a time when it was illegal in Britain, Turing was persecuted for his lifestyle, despite his pioneering work on computers at Manchester University.

He died in 1954 and the British Government recently pardoned him and apologised for the way he was treated.

Starring as Turing is actor Dave Reid, who recently won a NODA Award for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. He reunites with his award-winning director Mark Jones for this moving play, which covers Turing’s life from Cambridge until his death and documents the relationship with his mother, his colleagues, and the struggles he had coping with work and lifestyle.

The show runs from Monday, February 24 until Saturday, March 1, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £6 (Monday-Wednesday) and £8 (Thursday-Saturday) from Malcolm’s Musicland 01257 264362 or www.chorleytheatre.com.
