Actor James Dangerfield returns to home turf for the next outdoor show at Lytham Hall.

James, left of picture, is part of the cast of five in The Taming Of The Shrew at the hall on Sunday, making this his fifth summer season with Illyria theatre company.

A former pupil of King Edward & Queen Mary School in the town, James is delighted to perform at what has become one of his favourite venues.

“I’ve played a wonderful variety of roles in Lytham with Illyria, from Henry V to Frederick in the Pirates of Penzance,” the 28-year-old said.

“Shakespeare is always a challenge and outdoor touring will be completely different to my recent work in the theatre.

“Performing in front of my own family and friends in the superb setting at Lytham Hall always makes it a special evening for me.”

Illyria comes to Lytham as part of a 49-date open air tour, covering England, Scotland, Wales and the Netherlands.

The Hall’s outdoor season organiser Julian Wilde said Fylde coast theatre enthusiasts would be keen to see James again, following his widely praised portrayals in the title role of Shakespeare’s Henry V and as Orlando and Audrey in As You Like It in recent years’ tours.

“The Taming of the Shrew is one of Shakespeare’s sharpest, if sometimes controversial, comedies, and it will be interesting to see how director Oliver Gray presents the play with the usual Illyria cast of only five actors. Doubling up will be the order of the day and I think we are in for a memorable evening.”

Gates for Sunday’s 6pm show open at 4pm, to allow time for picnics in the grounds.
