‘Proud to promote and champion this theatre’

An actress who is both a familiar face in productions at the Dukes in Lancaster, and on TV, has been named as one of the theatre’s latest honorary patrons.

Christine Mackie’s appointment was announced at a reception in the Ashton Memorial before a performance of this year’s walkabout show Hansel & Gretel And More Tales From The Forest.

The location was particularly apt for an actress who has appeared in four of The Dukes past Williamson Park shows: Comedy of Errors, Jungle Book, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Three Musketeers.

Christine said: “The Dukes has played such an important part in my life and in that of my family. I am delighted and proud to promote and champion it.”

Christine’s first job was with The Dukes Theatre In Education team and also met her husband, James, at the venue.

Among Christine’s most recent appearances were in My Mother Said I Never Should, Sabbat, Hi Vis and Blackout.

Other work includes productions at Manchester’s Royal Exchange, Bolton Octagon, the Belgrade in Coventry and UK tours with Perspectives and Women’s Theatre Group.

Christine’s most recent TV roles include Daphne Bryant in fDownton Abbey, Miss Hicks in the CCTV series My Phone Genie, Fiona in Banana for E4 and will soon be seen as Dr Gaddas in Coronation Street.

She joins fellow honorary patrons of The Dukes: BAFTA award-winning actress Sarah Lancashire and Coronation Street star Cherylee Houston.
