Poulton Drama toil over Macbeth '˜with a twist'

Poulton Drama are making final preparations for their upcoming '˜Shakespeare with a twist' production of Macbeth, which opens at Thornton Little Theatre next Wednesday.

Their version will be staged with a Gothic Victorian ‘steampunk’ style, the choice of director David Twizell.

He said: “Macbeth has long been one of my very favourite plays and I am so delighted to be involved with this production. I wanted it to be a little different from the norm and the steam punk influence really adds an interesting dimension.

“I really encourage hardened Shakespeare fans, students and of course anyone new to Shakespeare to come along for an enlightening evening.”

Leading the 16 strong cast in the iconic main role, is Anthony Henry, who is a lifelong Shakespeare fan and was fortunate enough to perform with the Royal Shakespeare Company as Bottom, in last year’s touring production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, both at Blackpool and in Shakespeare’s home town of Stratford.

He added: “Performing with the RSC was a dream come true, an experience I will never forget. Now my dream continues in playing one of the most famous acting roles of all time.”
