A peach of a choice for children
Pigs in blankets? It can only mean Peppa Pig is back at Blackpool's Grand and sharing some curious sleeping arrangements with her young fans.
Giant peach? It’s got to be another family friendly offering - this time at the Opera House. And if you’re sharp you could still catch the last performance of Gruffalo’s Child at the Grand this afternoon –1.30pm, seats £14 – and let your kids glimpse this elusive creature in its far from natural habitat.
Don’t ever say that local theatres don’t cater for children. There’s an abundance of offerings in Blackpool’s theatres right now, and it’s a great way of getting children to discover the magic of theatre long before the pantomime season starts anew.
Gruffalo’s Child takes over from where ‘dad’ left off and builds on West End success and a sell out UK tour.
Another best selling book is brought to life when Roald Dahl’s classic James and the Giant Peach gets the treatment at the Opera House in a new stage show on tour.
Sell A Door Theatre Company are back in Blackpool (having brought Avenue Q here) Monday to Saturday at Blackpool’s biggest theatre - with a gigantic magical peach dominating proceedings in this surreal romp through orphan James’ adventures with magical bugs.
You’ll never flush a bug down the bath plug hole again after watching this. Little of Dahl’s magic is lost in David Wood’s adaptation, he’s already taken on Dahl’s The BFG and The Witches.
Shows 7pm, matinees 2pm next Thursday and Saturday.
And the Grand bring home the bacon (sorry kiddies) with Peppa Pig’s Surprise Sat and Sun, at 10am, 1pm and 4pm. Interactive fun, games, singalongs and new life size puppets.
