Oscar-winner steels himself for Monty date

In 1997, a British film about six out-of-work Sheffield steelworkers became one of the most successful British films ever made.

Simon Beaufoy, the Oscar-winning writer of The Full Monty, has adapted it for the stage and it comes to Blackpool Grand Theatre from tonight through to next Saturday.

Soap heart-throb Gary Lucy (EastEnders; The Bill, Hollyoaks) takes on the iconic role of Gaz, with support from Andrew Dunn (Coronation Street, Holby City) as Gerald, Louis Emerick (Brookside, Last of the Summer Wine) as Horse, Rupert Hill (EastEnders, Holby City) as Guy, Martin Miller (Scott & Bailey, Primeval) as Dave and Bobby Schofield (Our World War, Grange Hill) as Lomper.

The show opened to rave reviews in Sheffield, and has won the UK Theatre Award for Best Touring Production, and it features all the iconic songs from the film, including Hot Chocolate and Sir Tom Jones.

This is Beaufoy’s first work for theatre, but screen credits also include 127 Hours, Salmon Fishing in Yemen and Slumdog Millionaire.
