It opened last night and runs to Saturday at Lytham’s Lowther Pavilion.

Having bagged the rights early after versatile actress Sarah Lancashire starred in the main role to widespread acclaim the musical comedy follows on from the society’s success with Carousel. It is set in Yorkshire just after the Second World War, a period of real austerity for Brits tightening their belts while others cashed in. It features song, dance and novelty numbers of the 1940s. It’s based on Alan Bennett’s film A Private Function starring Michael Palin and Maggie Smith.
