Imbruglia began her career in the Aussie soap Neighbours, where she played Beth Brennan, before going on to become one of the biggest pop sensations in Europe with hit single Torn, and subsequent album, Left of the Middle.

She co-starred in the 2003 film Johnny English with Rowan Atkinson and made her leading actress debut in the 2009 film Closed for Winter.

Here she plays Nikki who with her fiancé Hamish moves in with Nikki’s old school-friend Barbara, on the middle floor of her converted house.

Unfortunately Hamish is everything Barbara despises, but their mutual, instant distaste hides deeper feelings.

In an intriguing set – cleverly revealing a limited view of the rooms above and below Barbara’s flat – bedroom farce develops into something more complex.

Award-winning actress Claire Price plays the role of Barbara. Her stage credits include The Winter’s Tale and The Daughter in Law at Sheffield Crucible.

Edward Bennett plays the role of Hamish. His previous performances include Measure for Measure, Habeas Corpus, Little Nell and Pygmalion with The Peter Hall Company and The School for Scandal.

The play runs at the Lowry until Saturday with Wednesday and Saturday matinees. Box Office: 0843 208 6005 or www.thelowry.com
