The 55-year-old has been a familiar face on the nation’s TVs for more than 25 years.

After an early appearance as a German hotel worker in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, she starred in ITV cop soap The Bill and appeared in early 90s Channel 4 comedy series Packet of Three with Frank Skinner, as well as the follow-up series Packing Them In.

In 1995, she became the first female solo winner of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s Perrier Comedy Award.

In 1997, she played ‘Josie’ in the stage play ‘Steaming’.

But she is best known for her role in the BBC’s show Grumpy Old Women.

The show, which is on October 8, is titled How To Be A Middle Aged Woman (Without Going Insane).

She will put middle age under the microscope and will decide whether or not to laugh, cry or buy a dachshund.
