Writer Marcia Layne’s play challenges and celebrates the notion of the angry and strong black woman.

The play sees a welcome return to the Lowry for the company, having performed at the venue with hit show Somebody’s Son in 2012.

Centred on the character of Eve, played by Flo Wilson covered in a huge overcoat, she epitomises the homeless ‘bag lady’ – but that’s not the whole story.

Hidden Gems are an emerging theatre company led by Amanda Huxtable and Marcia Layne. The company creates rarely-told Black British stories, and their outreach work involves schools, colleges and community groups and has extended to a performing arts group in South Africa.

Tickets £12. Box office: 0843 208 6000 or www.thelowry.com.
